##### Ibiza Rocks grew year-on-year sales by 257% for their 2023 season by repositioning as the 'Home of the Pool Party' and timing their campaign launch around Sunshine Saturday, the highest-intent holiday booking moment in the calendar. The challenge was acute: the iconic hotel and venue was mid-refurbishment and there was nothing finished to show prospective customers. We used CGI to preview the renovated venue before work was complete, built 15,000 new email subscribers ahead of launch, and coordinated the on-sale around a single high-intent cultural moment. 9,710 GA tickets sold by mid-May, exceeding the sales target by 4,710.

the challenge

##### Ibiza Rocks is one of the most recognisable names in the Ibiza scene, with a hotel and pool party residency model that has run for nearly two decades. By 2023, the pool party market had grown significantly more competitive, with new venues and touring events competing for the same audience that had historically defaulted to Ibiza Rocks.

##### The response was substantial investment: a complete overhaul of the hotel and venue, designed to modernise the experience and cement Ibiza Rocks as the definitive pool party destination. That investment created a commercial problem. The refurbishment would not be complete until late May 2023, leaving no finished venue to film, photograph, or show. Tickets for the summer season needed to go on sale in January, a selling window that opened months before there was anything new to sell.

##### The brief required three things: a repositioning that gave the brand a clear, ownable identity in a crowded market; a launch capable of generating immediate high-intent demand; and a campaign strategy that could sustain sales through the lower-intent mid-winter period before summer holiday intent naturally rises again.

the approach

##### The central insight from our Launch Hack process with the Ibiza Rocks team was that the brand did not need to compete for a share of the 'Ibiza clubbing' audience. It needed to own a distinct corner of it. The positioning we identified was both authentic and competitively defensible: Ibiza Rocks is the original home of the pool party. No competitor could credibly claim that territory.

##### That positioning became the creative lens and the end line for the whole season. Every piece of content and every audience touchpoint was built around the 'Home of the Pool Party' idea and the specific atmosphere and experience that implied.

##### The venue challenge became a campaign asset. Rather than avoiding the refurbishment story, we commissioned CGI showing the renovated hotel and venue, cut with real footage from previous seasons to communicate atmosphere and feel. The venue preview generated 2,000 engagements and 89,300 views before a single ticket went on sale, turning the build process itself into demand-generating content.

##### The launch timing was deliberate. We coordinated the 2023 residency announcement around Sunshine Saturday, the first Saturday after the January return to work, when holiday booking intent spikes sharply and social media is dominated by bucket lists and aspirational planning.

##### The residency launch content generated 22,000 reactions. Post-launch, targeted email funnels addressed the purchase objections most likely to slow conversion. As the campaign moved into the lower-intent February and March window, UGC combined with inventory warnings maintained urgency without requiring discounting.

##### A 257% year-on-year sales increase is not a targeting improvement or a creative refresh. It is the result of repositioning a brand around a truth it already owned and building the entire campaign architecture around that idea, from the content strategy to the launch moment to the post-sale funnels.

##### The 9,710 GA tickets sold by mid-May, exceeding the target by 4,710, tells the more precise story: the audience was primed and ready at the moment the on-sale opened. The 15,000 email subscribers built in the pre-launch phase were not a vanity metric but a structured intent pool that the campaign converted systematically over the following months.

Getting an outside perspective and tapping into the Mustard team's knowledge from across the event industry has been invaluable to know where we have been doing things right in our launch campaigns, what we could do differently and challenging us on where we can improve. The collaborative hack sessions we found especially useful in bringing out the creativity of our team, especially when we all work remotely, and we came away from them not just with a tonne of innovative ideas to think about but tangible plans and tools to make them happen.

What This Means for Music and Venue Brands

##### The principle at the heart of the Ibiza Rocks campaign is that competitive positioning is more durable than competitive spending. When a venue has genuine heritage in a specific type of experience, the most effective strategy is often to claim that territory explicitly rather than compete for generic audience share. 'Home of the Pool Party' was already true; making it the creative anchor for the campaign turned a brand truth into a growth mechanism.

##### For venue and music event operators, the implication is practical. The audiences most likely to convert are those who already have a reason to choose you over alternatives. Repositioning around an authentic point of difference concentrates marketing spend on the people for whom that difference already matters, which is more efficient than broad-audience acquisition. The 257% sales increase reflects what happens when a brand stops competing on the same terms as everyone else.

##### The question worth asking before the next season campaign launches: is the brand currently positioned around what makes it distinct, or is it positioned around what it shares with every other venue in the market?

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How did Ibiza Rocks grow sales by 257% in a single season?

##### Ibiza Rocks achieved a 257% year-on-year sales increase by repositioning as the 'Home of the Pool Party' and timing their 2023 on-sale around Sunshine Saturday, the highest-intent holiday booking moment in January. Mustard's Launch Hack process identified the positioning, CGI was used to preview the renovated venue before it was complete, and a structured email funnel converted 15,000 pre-launch subscribers into ticket buyers. GA tickets exceeded the sales target by 4,710.

Q: How do you sell event tickets when the venue is not yet finished?

##### Ibiza Rocks faced exactly this challenge for their 2023 season: the hotel and venue was mid-refurbishment and tickets needed to go on sale months before the renovation was complete. The solution was a CGI venue preview, cut with atmospheric footage from previous seasons, which generated 2,000 engagements and 89,300 views before launch. The unfinished venue became a campaign asset rather than a liability, and the anticipation it built contributed directly to the 257% YoY sales growth.

Q: What is Sunshine Saturday and why does it matter for event ticket sales?

##### Sunshine Saturday is the first Saturday after the January return to work, when holiday booking intent spikes sharply and social media behaviour is dominated by bucket lists and new year resolutions. Ibiza Rocks launched their 2023 on-sale to coincide with this moment, resulting in 22,000 reactions on the residency launch content and 9,710 GA tickets sold by mid-May, exceeding the target by 4,710. Timing a launch around Booker Behaviour patterns, rather than operational convenience, is one of the most reliable ways to maximise opening-day demand.

Q: How does Mustard approach brand repositioning for live music venues?

##### Mustard's approach starts with identifying what the venue already owns that no competitor can credibly claim. For Ibiza Rocks, that was the 'Home of the Pool Party' territory, a genuine heritage position that became both the creative lens and end line for the full 2023 season campaign. The repositioning was delivered across content, launch strategy, email funnels, and urgency mechanics, resulting in a 257% year-on-year sales increase from a mid-refurbishment starting point.
