On 29 September, Sian Bennett, Rob Masterson, Rory Palmer-Rowe, Callum Greenwood, and Liam Moffat spent an hour with marketing and revenue leads from festivals, sport, arenas, hospitality, attractions, and touring brands. Different businesses with a shared question; where are the bookings are going to land?

**Unpredictability is a cost, not a forecasting problem.**

Your inventory perishes. A ticket you did not sell has no value the next morning, and no future campaign gets it back. So every quiet week loads pressure onto the weeks you have left, which now have to perform well above average on a budget that has already been spent down. That is the most expensive way there is to run a season, and most experience brands run one this way every year without ever pricing the loss.

**Most teams ask how much they can spend. Very few ask how much they should.**

The budget conversation usually starts in a finance meeting and ends with a fixed number. The more useful question is what a booker is actually worth to you across their life with the brand, and therefore what you can profitably spend to acquire one. Answer that and the budget stops being an input you defend. It becomes an output of performance, which is a very different conversation to have with a board.

We call the discipline behind it Experience Economics. It starts by reverse engineering commercial targets into the metrics that actually move them, and it usually starts by discovering that your ticketing platform, your analytics, and your ad accounts do not agree with each other.

One example from the session that landed hard. A seasonal attraction had 2 correct answers to the question "what was our conversion rate?", and the 2 answers were 77 percentage points apart. Both were defensible. Only one of them was any use for planning next year.

“I have set these budgets from the other side of the table. The number you agree in September decides how ambitious the whole experience can be, and most of us set it before we know what a booker is actually worth.”

**4 in 5 of your bookers are strangers.**

Return rates across festivals sit at around 20% at best. Sport and hospitality do better, but not by as much as most operators assume. Which means that most cycles, you are solving the same cold decision with people who have never bought from you, and you are doing it on inherited assumptions about who they are.

Leaving the house is a group decision. The costs stack up well beyond the ticket. Strangers shape how the night actually feels. That is a complicated thing to sell to, and around 5% of your audience is ready to buy at any given moment. Most marketing talks to that 5% and then wonders why sales flatten.

Booker Intelligence is how we get that understanding continuously, out of your own channels and your own data, instead of the survey you cannot afford and the workshop you do not have time for.

**What the full session covered.**

Where the numbers come from and how to reconcile them. How to forecast by phase of the sales cycle, and what to do the week a forecast goes off course. How persona data changes budget, creative, and reporting rather than sitting in a PDF. Why creative that looks varied often is not, and how to tell. Plus worked examples across festivals, sport, hospitality, attractions, and winter destinations.

**We could have talked for another hour.**

We ran out of time long before we ran out of things to say. What we kept coming back to was what you actually do the week a forecast starts drifting, and why so much persona work ends up as a PDF nobody opens twice. If that sounds like your inbox, the full 75min session is worth a watch. Leave your details and we will send you the recording.
